If you haven’t visited downtown Seguin lately you should! We have some great businesses and they would love to have you as their customer! And soon, it will be even easier to frequent those businesses and shop local with the conversion of several parallel parking spaces to angled parking. The Seguin City Council recently approved the conversion in a unanimous vote at the May 17th meeting. Based upon the results of a survey asking what Seguinites would like to see in the downtown area, many people commented on the lack of available parking. Luckily the city council listened and that will be a thing of the past!
According to a recent article in the Seguin Daily News, parking capacity will increase by 9 spaces, plus there will be additional handicapped parking. The parking spots will be 45 degree angled as opposed to the current parallel design therefore it will be easier and faster for customers to stop in and shop local!
The blocks that will see changes in parking are the 100 and 200 blocks of East Notle and the 300 block South River Street. The 100 block of East Nolte will have 5 additional spaces, the 200 block of East Nolte will get 2 more spaces, and the 300 block of South River will get 2 spaces as well.
This project is in conjunction with the sidewalk improvements made available through the Texas Capital Fund, including ADA ramps and repairs to cracks and non compliant sidewalks. These projects will be completed during the 2017 fiscal year.
You can stop by the Main Street offices at 211 North River Street to take the survey and include your input on the survey about downtown. If you have ideas on how to make our downtown even better, please participate in the survey! And don’t forget to shop local!

Seguin is officially on the state’s list of where you might want to live when you retire. The Mission of the CRC Program is to promote Texas as a retirement destination to retirees and potential retirees both in and outside Texas; encourage tourism to Texas as a desirable retirement location and for the visitation of those who have chosen to retire in this state; establish a certification program that is user friendly and informative; and maintain a certification program that is reliable and trusted.
