Library honored with award

The new Seguin Public Library has recently received recognition by winning the Best of Texas Award for Government and Public Buildings through the Engineering News-Record.

One of the most recognized features of the library is the mill work in the furniture.  The wood was from trees that were located on the actual site of the library so the furniture isn’t just purchased from somewhere – it has special meaning to the site and to Seguin in general.  The trees removed for the project were turned into tables, benches and various wood accents throughout the library.

The Engineering News-Record is one of the top publications in construction and produces the Top 400 Contractors list nationally.  The winners from the categories, including the Seguin Public Library, will compete in ENR’s nation-wide Best of the Best Award competition later on in the year.

It is a beautiful designed building with lots of fantastic architecture and of course plenty of books to browse and enjoy.  Go see it for yourself if you haven’t yet!

Tax Credit Homebuyers Get Extension to Close

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)–The Senate Wednesday approved more time for homebuyers seeking to claim a federal tax credit, but tabled a six-month extension of jobless benefits.

The homebuyer measure would help only those that entered into binding contracts before April 30. It would give such homebuyers until Sept. 30 to close the sale. Under current law, they would have had to close by today to be eligible for tax credits.

It passed the Senate by unanimous voice vote. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the homebuyer measure, which the House passed earlier this week.
